Easter Fun in Cache Valley

We had Easter at Leah's house with Adria's, hers, Melissa's, mine and now, Julia's families. (I don't know why this is underlined) The meal was great. Luckily, the storms subsided on Sunday for everyone to have fun outside.

Here are the kids getting ready to run...

We practiced hiding and finding eggs on Saturday, so she kind of got it.

Here are the "babies" sizing up each other's loot

Here are all the cousins sans Elle and Seb in Baltimore. But we did get to talk to Gabe and Seb via web cam for a while. Super fun!

I don't have any footage, but somehow, after the hunt, we all wanted to see how well we would fair at stunting. Jake and his fiance, Tori, took turns doing basket tosses with the grand kids. I thought it didn't look too hard, so I decided to try. I would've made it, except Tori and I started laughing so hard and I almost wet myself (and the stunters). I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Mostly because Melissa was trying to do cartwheels, round-offs, and a back bend.

Franny the Easter Bunny

And last but not least, here is my 5 month shot of baby Holland. I should've posted this ages ago, but I took this right after Micah was born, so I forgot about it. I'll have another one soon because I'll be 6 months!

We Did It!!!!

On Saturday the 18th Adria and I ran the SLC half marathon. Leah trained along side us, but was actually gone for the race. (We missed you!) Cesar, Mike, Adria and I got to SLC on Friday night to check in, go drive the course in the light and then carbo load at The Old Spaghetti Factory. We were so anxious that we hardly slept. We got up at 5:00 am to eat and get ready to go. We got on trax and headed up to the Legacy Brigde(by Camp Douglas) on the UofU campus. We started there and ran down to Foothill dr. Then over to 2100 s. Made our way over to highland dr and through Sugarhouse. Over to 1700 s. and then west to 500 E. Then up and over to Liberty park where we were at 10 miles. Then down to State St and up to South Temple. One mile to go. Then west to the Union Pacific Building and around the corner to run through the Gateway to the Olympic fountain. Done....2hours 43 minutes. We had a lot of fun and couldn't believe that training really works!

When I started training I couldn't decide why I really wanted to do this. Then it hit me. I did it to bond with my sisters. I did it to be a healthier mom. I did it to prove to myself I still have it in me to push myself and achieve something I never thought I could. I am happy to say that I feel like I accomplished all three.
Going to the Salt Palace Check In.

Right before the race.

I was getting nervous.

On your mark, get set, GO!!!

And we made it!!! Finally.

White House Egg Roll, Easter, Cherry Blossom Festival

History of the White House Easter Egg Roll as described in the program:

"President Abraham Lincoln's son, Tad, hosted the first informal egg-rolling parties in 1861, however the tradition we know today was established by President Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife, Lucy.

According to press accounts from the early 1870s, young egg-rollers would flock to the Capitol's steep grassy terraces every Easter Monday for an exhilarating day of play.

In 1876, members of Congress who were tired of the growing crowds, torn-up grounds and one too many pratfalls on old egg shells, passed an Act of Congress preventing the Capitol grounds from being used as a playground. However, heavy rains on Easter Sunday in 1877 postponed the new law's enforcement until 1878. That year, a New York newspaper reported that several young boys approached a strolling President Hayes and asked for permission to use his back yard to roll eggs. Not wanting to say no to the children, President Hayes made sure that come Easter Monday, all children who wished to were allowed to enter the grounds.

By 1889 more than 8,000 children would descend upon the south lawn to play such games as "Egg Picking," "Egg Ball," "Toss and Catch," and "Egg Croquet."

The famous egg-rolling race was introduced in 1974 when youngsters wielding presidential serving spoons would roll, push, and occasionally toss colorful hard-boiled eggs on their way to the finish line."

Sebastien loves balls. All day he kicks balls through the house or outside wherever we walk. He was so excited when he saw the soccer activity at the Egg Roll. He played here most of the time and later we watched a soccer game on the lawn.

The theme of the roll was to give us a few tips on how we can lead healthier and more active lives. Here's the yoga activity, near the healthy cooking demonstration and jump rope making corner
